Giving Voice project TRIBE PhD program | University of Split School of Medicine
Purpose Statement
The Giving Voice project was launched to support Ukrainian authors in documenting and publishing reports on the consequences of the war in Ukraine. Recognizing the immense challenges posed by the war—disrupted infrastructure, emotional and physical tolls, and limited resources—the project offers targeted assistance to those lacking experience or time for scientific publishing.
The initiative seeks to amplify voices often unheard, including refugees (example attached), marginalized groups, and students, while also supporting courageous individuals opposing the war within repressive environments (example attached). By providing mentoring, writing assistance, and editorial support, the project enables authors to document vital aspects of war medicine, cases of war crimes, human rights abuses, and efforts in peace promotion through medicine.
The overarching goal is to embed social responsibility into scientific publishing, encouraging researchers to contribute knowledge that addresses critical societal issues. Through its publication platform, primarily the ST-OPEN journal, the project fosters international collaboration and ensures that unique perspectives are preserved as historical evidence. By sharing stories of resilience and resourcefulness, the project aims to inspire further research, promote ethical scholarship, and support the global scientific community in responding to crises.
